We are very excited to welcome you to the 2016/17 Orientation Week at Traill College!!!
This is the first time in a long while that undergraduates will be in residence at Traill and the first time ever the college has officially been a Graduate AND Undergraduate college. That being said we have a really exciting year ahead of us as we get to rebuild our college community from the ground up. Never has there been a better time for undergraduates to get involved at Traill, and we hope o-week will be the start of a life long love of Traill. This place is really special, but above all it is students that really define our community. Many students in their first year don't really get involved, and they definitely miss out on some of what Trent has to offer year after year. I would encourage you all to fully participate in o-week. It is a ton of fun and we are working really hard to make this an amazing week (we may also have a very special surprises for you along the way)!
O-week is a lot of fun, but don't let your engagement with your college end there! The upper years of Traill are rallying to support the college and all of the new students. We hope to help build our community together and show the rest of Trent what Traill has to offer! Traill is a college with a mandate like no other college at Trent. We are closer to downtown, we are small, we have graduate students, we are the oldest college still at Trent and in some ways the newest. We definitely have the best food and the nicest buildings, we have great connections with the academic departments located at Traill, and we have only found out that undergraduates would be returning to the college a month ago! We have been told we are allowed to be special, begin our own traditions and revive old ones, to branch out from the college model on Symons campus and return to a traditional academic college. This doesn't mean that we are stuck in the past, it means that no where else at Trent do students have more of a chance to shape where they live and study. It means that we have a chance to build the community you want. Most of all it means that we can focus on building a community where faculty, graduate students, and undergrads all have a voice.
I encourage all of you to have a ton of fun, build friendships that last a lifetime, attend and hopefully ace your classes, and get involved in your college. After o-week we will be reforming a small and new version of the Traill College Cabinet (like the student council for the college) to plan events, build student space, and bring Traill to the rest of the university. Everyone is welcome to join!
But first let's have the best orientation week ever!
Looking forwards to meeting every single on of you,
